A RØDECaster is one of the best ways to record a podcast in one room: everyone's microphone, one desk, one file. Here's how to get that recording edited without spending your evening on it.
Which file to upload
Upload one sound file: the stereo mix, with everyone in it. Edit The Pod doesn't need a separate track for each person. It works out who's talking by itself.
Recorded each microphone on its own track as well? You don't need those. Upload the stereo mix with everyone in it.
Audio shows, step by step
- Copy the recording off your RØDECaster's memory card or USB drive.
- Open the Podloader and drop the file into Podcast audio / video.
- Click Upload and process. You'll get an email when it's ready.
- Open the episode. The filler words, false starts and long gaps are already cut, and the sound's been cleaned up and levelled.
- Read through the transcript, change anything you like, and click Export.
Video shows, step by step
Recording cameras alongside your RØDECaster? Keep the sound from the RØDECaster and the pictures from the cameras.
- Make sure each camera records some sound of its own, even just its built in microphone. That's what Edit The Pod uses to line the cameras up with your RØDECaster mix.
- In the Podloader, drop the camera files and the RØDECaster mix into Podcast audio / video together.
- The Podloader asks if they belong together. Click Yes, one recording for one camera, or Yes, these are camera angles for two or three.
- Under Which file has the episode's audio?, pick the RØDECaster file, then click Upload and process.
- Open the episode. The cameras are lined up for you and the shots switch to whoever's talking.
Good to know
- Already happy with how your RØDECaster sounds? Switch on the toggle just above the main box in the Podloader and the audio enhancement is skipped. Everything else still runs.
- One camera is enough. Shoot a 4K wide shot and Edit The Pod cuts between close ups and the wide for you.
- WAV, MP3 and M4A all go straight in.
